M1 a.k.a. Matt DiMarr is definitively one of Canada’s House music legends and an electronic music pioneer. M1 began his career as a DJ in the eighties spinning Hip-Hop and Dance music. M1 was notorious as the “mixologist” DJ capturing first place and the crown as Toronto’s best DJ in 1989. Two years later M1’s first major release “Feel The Drums” on NYC label Emotive became a worldwide hit and major influence amongst the dance community. Other tracks from the emotive period included “Dynomite!”, “Dirty Five”, “The Bottle” and “Reach For The Stars” etc. In 1993 M1, together with Shams Tharani formed Jinxx Records. Recruiting talent like Paul Jacobs, DJ Sneak, Nick Holder, Jacksoul, David Duriez, Kenny Glasgow and many others. In 1998 M1 released the highly acclaimed “Electronic Funk” again achieving international success as well as hitting number one on the Canadian dance club charts. Renowned DJ/Producer Roger Sanchez along with local talent Kaje were brought in for the UK release of “Electronic Funk 2000 Remix”; re-establishing the hit yet again and hitting the number one spot on the Canadian Dance club charts for the second time. During that period M1 continued his solo and remix work and side projects: “Neon Lights”, “Matthaus”, “Dirty Gringo”, “Bionic Men”, “Manmachine” and most recently “The Highlife”. Early 2004 M1 launched the “Reinvent Music” label with a mandate for cutting edge electronic music. With Reinvent Music release of M1’s acid laced “Freak the Frequency” and electro banger “Porn Tech Money Sex” a new exciting direction is set to lead the way ahead of the pack…. 2005 M1 is nominated for a Juno Award for dance recording of the year for his album Robopop. M1s last 5 singles released in Canada have all charted top 20 nationally with two of the singles charting .. 1. (“I Can Feel It”, “House of Funk”, “Electronic Funk”, “EF 2000” and “Rockn Music”).
