Lester McLean started playing the saxophone in Junior High School at the age of 13. His music education includes 3-years in York University’s jazz program. Lester has been active in the Toronto music scene for the last 12 years and in addition to his work with The Wisemen and other artists/producers, he fronts the popular instrumental funk/jazz group the The Colour of Soul (www.thecolourofsoul.com). In addition to his saxophone playing, Lester is also an accomplished vocalist and fronts the popular Soul and R&B group ‘Grooveyard’. In addition to work on the records of some of Toronto’s finest musicians, Lester has also had a great deal of exposure on Television as he has appeared in or performed music on several advertisements and promos. He has been and continues to be a very versatile musician. “I like a lot of different music. If you were to check out my record collection you would see Chick Corea and Joshua Redman but, you would also see Sting, Michael Jackson and Van Halen. I like all of that stuff.” Along with the names listed above, Maceo Parker, Wayne Shorter, Brantford Marsalis and Eric Marrienthal are also some of his favourite sax influences.
